The Metro Tote by MZ Wallace + Life in Play ToteSavvy Organizational Tote Insert
We use MZ Wallace’s (large) Metro Tote for travel. The wide opening provides easy access to all the contents and the top zip closure ensures that no items tumble out when shoved under an airline seat or squeezed into an overhead bin. Water- and stain-resistent material, inner slots and pockets, and three removable zip pouches are just a few of its great features. To further MOMganize our travel essentials, we combined it with the ToteSavvy Organizational Tote Insert by Life in Play. Visit STWFU for our full review of both this tote and organizer.
Combine your favorite gear and products with our travel packing list and tips.
Inner zip pocket of tote:
+ Mobile phones (in our family, they’re iPhones)
+ Passports and travel documents [some countries require an authorized copy of birth certificates for all accompanying minors; visit the U.S. Department of State – Bureau of Consular Affairs to learn about your destination(s) and find specific information about traveling with minors, which can generally be found under the “Entry, Exit & Visa Requirements” for each country]
Inner card slot (within inner zip pocket of MetroTote):
+ Set of keys
Inner open pockets of MetroTote:
+ Emergen-C supplement packets, Vital Proteins Collagen Peptide Stick Packs (the inner open pockets are quite narrow, but are useful to stow quick-reach items like lip gloss, gum, breath mints or small treats)
MetroTote’s large removable zip pouch:
Take the pouch and baby to the airplane lavatory along with the ToteSavvy diaper changing mat, and leave the rest of the tote in your passenger seat.
+ Honest Diapers (2-3)
+ WaterWipes Baby Wipes in OXO Tot On-the-Go Wipes Dispenser (don’t forget to include extra packs in your suitcase or stroller transport bag; see our Travel Hacks)
+ Honest Organic All-Purpose Balm
+ Honest Soothing Bottom Wash (we’ve been able to skate through security at most airports with this 5.0-oz bottle; however, we were once forced to relinquish it at London’s Heathrow Airport)
+ Honest Hand Sanitizer (we only use hand sanitizer during flu season and on planes)
MetroTote’s medium removable zip pouch:
+ On-the-go beauty and wellness essentials in TSA-approved travel sizes: lip balm, facial moisturizer, facial mist, facial towelettes (toss a few in Ziplock Snack Bag to lighten the load), hair brush with a few extra hair ties wrapped around the handle, hand lotion, breath mints, manicure kit, sewing kit, travel dental kit, natural deodorant (a mini paste or mini spray)
+ Adult-size snacks, like RxBars
+ Other necessary carry-on items based on the total travel time/number of legs (e.g., daily supplements on multiple international connections or red eyes, monthly feminine care products if needed)
MetroTote’s small removable zip pouch:
+ iPhone chargers (1-2)
+ Apple AirPods
+ Saunorch Universal International Travel Power Adapter
ToteSavvy insert:
+ Commit30 Planner and erasable ink pen in velcro side pocket
+ Lightweight children’s books or magazines in flat pocket (currently: 2-3 Hello Magazines and Indestructibles: Things That Go)
+ OXO Tot Transitions Sippy Cup with water* (replaced a 9-oz Ultra Premium PPSU bottle with breastmilk/formula) in insulated bottle pocket
Other pockets:
+ 4-oz OXO Tot Baby Blocks Freezer Storage Container (+ healthy snack)*
+ Bumpkins Waterproof Sleeved Bib or Bumpkins Waterproof (Short-Sleeve) Junior Bib (replaced our newborn bibs/burp cloths when Sydney began solids)*
+ OXO Tot On-the-Go Fork & Spoon Set with Carrying Case*
+ Honest Mineral Sunscreen Stick (SPF 30)
+ Age-appropriate toy (usually: Sydney’s lovey)
+ Sunglass/eyeglass case
+ Diaper changing mat included by manufacturer (20×25″)
And as many extra diapers as possible!
Skip Hop Grab & Go Wet/Dry Bag:
+ Season-appropriate clothing (2 sets; add a third on multiple connections or long international flights, especially if you plan to check your usual carry-on suitcases)
Other items within quick reach:
+ Nursing cover* (my favorites are nursing cover infinity scarves, like this one by Mary B)
Optional based on need or desire:
+ Pacifiers, favorite toys or board books
*when use of items are age- or situation-appropriate
